Difference between the 2nd and 1st generation?
Hero Air Race 14′ x 24″ 2nd generation is constructed using an upgraded version of the RDS transparent double-layer material. Additional carbon fiber reinforcements were also added at the top and bottom sections of the board, so it now has carbon reinforcements on all sides and double reinforcements at the top and bottom!
As a result, the board is now much stiffer than the previous version and has a reduced weight of 10.5 KG which is the optimal weight for an inflatable racing board.
What is optimal weight?
For the best performance and stability, an inflatable SUP racing board should not be as light as possible. If the board is too light it will start to drift which affects its stability and performance, especially when the waves hit the side of the board. (Based on our real-life observations, a 9 KG board which has a width of 25″ is actually less stable than our Striker Air has a width of 23″) This is why the optimal weight for an inflatable SUP racing board should be around 10.5 – 11 KG.
